Tips for Styling a Studio Maternity Session

UPDATED June 2023

Ahh, I can’t stop looking at this recent maternity gallery! This spring, I had the pleasure of capturing Grace's beautiful maternity session. Her style is effortlessly chic and elegant, and her session perfectly embodied that. We started the session with some simple portraits against a white backdrop, where Grace wore an elegant white silk gown.

Originally, we were going to do this maternity session at Grace's 1940's Dallas home that she is currently renovating, but due to Grace's sister having her baby, we decided to reschedule and change locations. Little did we know that Grace would give birth to her baby girl the very next day! She went home from the session with her bouquet in hand, not knowing that her baby daughter would arrive within 24 hours. It was a beautiful and unexpected surprise, and I felt honored to capture these special moments for Grace and her family.

The morning light coming in through the window added a soft and dreamy feel to the photos, creating a timeless and classic look. Next, we moved onto a new furniture piece at the studio, a yellow vintage velvet couch. The look was retro, elegant, and sophisticated, and Grace looked stunning in a more relaxed pose. The pops of yellow added a playful and vibrant touch to the photos, making them feel modern and fresh.

Grace then changed into a more casual outfit, consisting of blue jeans, a white bandeau, and a white button-up. I brought a fresh bouquet of Grace's favorite flowers, white ranunculus, and some other wildflowers to add a whimsical and natural element to the photos. We incorporated the bouquet for some photos against a few of the studio backdrops, creating a variety of looks and moods.

Lastly, Grace's husband arrived with their two sweet dogs, and we took some photos of them together in a cozy lifestyle/living room setting. The dogs added a playful and loving element to the photos, showcasing the beautiful bond between Grace and her family. We finished off with photos of the whole family, including Grace, her husband, and both dogs, creating a beautiful and unforgettable moment.

In conclusion, Grace's maternity session was full of elegance, whimsy, and love. I am grateful to have been a part of this special milestone in her life, and I am excited to see what the future holds for her and her growing family.
